known_site records

known_site (2015)

If you look at a vinyl record under a microscope, you see a landscape of information. Valleys, peaks, and plateaus. I am very interested in the idea of sound as landscape and landscape as sound. What defines sound? Can landscape create rhythm that is indicative of the “site”?

My on-going series “known_site records” explores sites marked by man’s intervention with landscape and with landscapes marked not by man, but by time. Craters created by asteroids, missiles fired by drones, glaciers carving rivers, and urbanization of rural lands.

The images of these sites are then turned into a “record” using a laser cutter.
